چکیده
Limpet species are subjected to pressures of high exploitation. In the Madeira Archipelago (Portugal), limpes an economic and traditional fishing resource whose exploitation is regulated, reduce impact over native populations. The effectiveness NaOH-alkalinized seawater baths enhance artificial maturation Patella candei (D′orbigny, 1840) oocytes fertilisation success in laboratory has been studied. First, optimal combinations pH activation time obtain active were tested. Then, viability those was studied a three factorial assay (pH x time). Finally, results obtained previous assays cross tested find relationship between both. for methodology improvement. Results showed that conditions production larvae 9.5, 2 3 h 24:00 h, ratio development 0.65 0.75. refrigeration could help maintain oocyte time, but further research required. This study establishes foundational step towards larval biology laboratory, which required understand ecological requirements early life stages this promote aquaculture production.

Enhancing stocks of the exploited limpet Patella candei d’Orbigny via modifications in coastal engineering
It is widely recognised that microhabitats are important for a variety of marine organisms, yet this knowledge has rarely been applied in the construction of engineered structures as a means of enhancing biodiversity or populations of species at risk. Here we examined the influence of microhabitats on the distribution and survival of the exploited limpet Patella candei on natural shores before ...
متن کاملProtein deubiquitination during oocyte maturation influences sperm function during fertilisation, antipolyspermy defense and embryo development.
Ubiquitination is a covalent post-translational modification of proteins by the chaperone protein ubiquitin. Upon docking to the 26S proteasome, ubiquitin is released from the substrate protein by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs). We hypothesised that specific inhibitors of two closely related oocyte DUBs, namely inhibitors of the ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolases (UCH) UCHL1 (L1 inhibitor) and UC...
متن کاملDisentangling the genetic and morphological structure of Patella candei complex in Macaronesia (NE Atlantic)
The uptake of natural living resources for human consumption has triggered serious changes in the balance of ecosystems. In the archipelagos of Macaronesia (NE Atlantic), limpets have been extensively exploited probably since islands were first colonized. This has led to profound consequences in the dynamics of rocky shore communities. The Patella candei complex includes various subspecies of l...
متن کاملThe Effects of Progesterone on Oocyte Maturation and Embryo Development
Oocyte maturation and embryo development are controlled by intra-ovarian factors such as steroid hormones. Progesterone (P4) exists in the follicular fluid that contributes to normal mammalian ovarian function and has several critical functions during embryo development and implantation, including endometrial receptivity, embryonic survival during gestation and transformation of the endometrial...
متن کاملEmbryological Aspects of Oocyte In Vitro Maturation
In Vitro Maturation (IVM) is a method that immature oocytes in antral follicles are extracted and matured in laboratry conditions. This review has attempted to provide the current knowledge and recent findings in in vitro maturation of oocytes and highlights the most important factors involved in this process. The review is based on literature reports and the author’s experience. In IVM cycles,...
